Torpedo mate calabash - Imperial
AN EXCEPTIONAL NATURAL CALABASH
THE SQUASH, THE ORIGIN OF THE GOURD
Our mate gourds are made from the hardiest gourds, grown in the southern region of Brazil.
These gourds are recognized as being the best for making calabashes thanks to their shape and thickness .
After harvesting, the squash is emptied and then dried for several months, in order to acquire the resistant properties of the wood.
AT THE HEART OF CRAFTS
So it is after this that our craftsman, Cristian, begins his meticulous work.
By hand, he will dress the gourd in leather and form feet to protect and stabilize it . He will then make a custom hoop and chisel it by hand, before fixing it on top of the mate gourd.
This is why our gourds are unique . The total manufacturing time, from the growth of the gourd to the exit from Cristian's workshop, is between 12 and 18 months .
In addition to your artisanal gourd, opt for the discovery of our range of organic mate , carefully selected for their incomparable flavor.
Why mate?
Mate is a traditional South American drink, prepared from the leaves of the yerba mate tree. It is rich in antioxidants , vitamins and minerals , and has stimulant properties similar to coffee and tea. It can help improve concentration , energy and digestion .
How to prepare and consume mate?
Mate is traditionally prepared in a calabash and consumed with a bombilla, a metal filtering straw. The calabash is filled about 2/3 full of yerba mate, hot water (not boiling, about 70-80°C) is added and sipped through the bombilla.
When to drink mate?
Mate can be consumed at any time of the day, depending on individual preferences and needs. As it contains caffeine, it is often enjoyed in the morning or early afternoon for a boost of energy and focus.
What does mate taste like?
We carefully select our different yerba mate for their exceptional flavors: sweet and complex , very close to the flavor of green tea .
