IS OUR MATE CERTIFIED ORGANIC?
Our mate comes from organic agroforest farming.
Agroforest is a "semi-wild" way of growing: the mate plants grow freely in the heart of the forest and draw their resources from the rich biodiversity of southern Brazil's forests.
Certified by ECOCERT, no chemicals or GMOs have been used to grow our mate since 1970.
WHAT DOES MATE TASTE LIKE?
Mate is a plant in its own right, so it has a flavor all its own, which depends on the different types of mate and their quality.
Medium- and low-quality mates are very bitter - this comes from the type of farming and a premature harvest. The leaves are usually picked every year, before reaching full maturity. The taste inevitably suffers; by comparison, an olive picked before ripeness will naturally be more bitter.
We harvest the leaves every two years, which makes our mate smoother and naturally sweeter.
We also offer different mates: Green, 24-Month Aged and Roasted. Their flavors differ drastically.
• Green mate is close to green tea in its smoothness.
• 24-month aged mate is the original mate, with its nutty notes.
• Roasted mate is the middle ground between coffee and tea. It's the ideal mate for cutting down - or gradually quitting - coffee!
HOW TO BREW MATE?
There are several brewing methods for mate, depending on your equipment and preferences.
You can brew your mate with a tea infuser or with our biodegradable tea bags. This brewing method has the advantage of considerably reducing mate's bitterness. We recommend it for new mate drinkers, to get used to the flavor.
If you're a seasoned mate drinker and prefer to dose your brew to taste, we recommend brewing in a French press. You can manage the intensity of your brew and the amount of mate to use. It's also the best way to share mate if you don't have a gourd!
Of course, if you have a gourd, the traditional brew is the most fitting.
WHERE ARE OUR GOURDS & BOMBILLAS MADE?
They are handmade by artisans in Uruguay, near the Argentine border.
Made from the finest squashes, selected in southern Brazil for their size and sturdiness, these gourds are true works of art, crafted in keeping with ancestral know-how.
The size and shape of each gourd depend on the squash chosen - so every one is unique.
ARE THE GOURDS PRE-CURED?
To extend its lifespan and avoid any risk of mold or cracking, our artisan gourds need to be cured before their first use.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TEMPERA® RANGE
TEMPERA® WARRANTY
Tempera® products are guaranteed against any manufacturing or material defect, and their thermal performance is guaranteed as long as they are used in accordance with the usage guidelines.
This warranty does not cover damaged parts or defects resulting from alteration, accident or improper use.
For best practices on using and caring for your product, please refer to the instructions provided with it.
GETTING THE BEST OUT OF YOUR TEMPERA® THERMOS
Prime your Tempera® thermos for optimal performance: pour hot or cold water inside to pre-heat or pre-cool it.
Let it sit for about five minutes to stabilize the temperature, then empty the water.
Then fill it with your favorite drink - hot, cold or iced.
Remember to close the cap quickly to preserve the temperature as long as possible.
CLEANING BEFORE FIRST USE
Before first use, make sure to wash your product thoroughly. Hand washing is recommended to preserve its durability.
1. Fill your thermos with lukewarm water and a little mild detergent.
2. Let it sit for a few minutes.
3. Clean the inside with a soft, damp sponge or cloth.
4. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel.
Take good care of your Tempera® thermos so it stays with you day after day!
ARE TEMPERA® PRODUCTS RUST-RESISTANT?
Tempera® products are made from high-quality stainless steel, specially selected for its corrosion resistance and durability. Proper care is nevertheless essential to preserve these properties. If you notice marks that look like rust, they are most likely deposits of free iron particles, dirt or residue that have contaminated the surface.
To remove these marks, we recommend a mild, non-abrasive household cleaner, applied with a sponge, soft brush or clean cloth. You can also use a product specifically designed for cleaning or polishing stainless steel. Another option is to soak your product in a mixture of lukewarm water and baking soda, white vinegar or lemon juice. Repeat if necessary for best results.
After each cleaning, be sure to rinse your thermos well to remove any product residue, in line with the care instructions provided. These simple habits will extend the life and looks of your Tempera® product.
CAN TEMPERA® THERMOSES HOLD MILK?
We advise against using dairy products in the Tempera® thermos.
Dairy products can encourage bacterial growth when kept in a closed container for a long period. This can not only alter the taste, but also pose health risks.
To make the most of your thermos, we recommend using it for hot or cold drinks such as mate, coffee, tea or water. If you have poured dairy into it by mistake, be sure to clean the thermos carefully with hot water and a little white vinegar.
HOW TO DEEP-CLEAN YOUR TEMPERA® THERMOS?
To guarantee perfect hygiene and preserve the durability of your Tempera® thermos, rinse it with hot water immediately after each use to remove drink residue. This prevents odors or stains from setting in.
From time to time, you can deep-clean the thermos - here's how:
1. Cleaning with baking soda
• Add a tablespoon of baking soda to your thermos.
• Fill it with hot water.
• Let it sit for up to 1 hour, then gently scrub the inside with a long-handled brush or soft sponge.
• Rinse thoroughly with clear water.
2. Deodorizing with white vinegar or lemon
• Pour 50 ml of white vinegar (or the juice of one lemon) into the thermos.
• Top up with hot water.
• Let it rest for about 1 hour, then scrub and rinse carefully.
3. Cleaning the cap
• Clean the various parts with hot water and a small amount of white vinegar and water.
• Rinse carefully and let air-dry.
5. Dry completely
After each cleaning, dry your thermos with a soft cloth, or let the thermos and cap air-dry wide open to prevent any build-up of moisture or bad odors.
Extra tip
For daily care, use a soft bottle brush to clean the walls without scratching them. Avoid abrasive cleaners or rough sponges to preserve your thermos's finish.
