MORE THAN A GOURD: AN ART OBJECT
UNIQUE CALABASES
Signature Calabashes represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship, where each unique piece is created with care and precision. Each calabash is handcrafted by Cristian , our master artisan and silversmith in Uruguay, whose exceptional skill is acclaimed by his peers. The creation of these calabashes is a meticulous process, beginning with the selection of the sturdiest and best-formed gourds from Brazil.
Drawing on his expertise, Cristian sculpts and chisels each gourd with unparalleled precision. The alpaca rim, made of a refined alloy (almost indistinguishable from silver) , is handcrafted to guarantee exceptional finesse and durability. Every detail is carefully considered to create not only a functional gourd, but also a unique work of art.
These gourds are distinguished by their rarity and elegance . Each model is produced in a limited edition, making each gourd a truly unique piece. The time dedicated to their creation, from the gourd's growth to Cristian's final touch, guarantees quality and durability, ensuring an exceptional yerba mate experience.
Why mate?
Mate is a traditional South American beverage made from the leaves of the yerba mate tree. It is rich in antioxidants , vitamins , and minerals , and has stimulating properties similar to those of coffee and tea. It can help improve concentration , energy , and digestion .
How to prepare and consume maté?
Mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd and consumed with a bombilla, a metal filter straw. The gourd is filled about two-thirds with yerba mate, hot water (not boiling, around 70-80°C) is added, and the sipping is done through the bombilla.
When to drink maté?
Yerba mate can be consumed at any time of day, depending on individual preferences and needs. Because it contains caffeine, it is often enjoyed in the morning or early afternoon for an energy boost and improved concentration.
What does maté taste like?
We carefully select our different yerba mate for their exceptional flavors: sweet and complex , very close to the flavor of a green tea .
