THE Alpaca engraved imperial mate gourds are the result of the collaboration with exclusive with our partner artisan, Cristian, one of the most talented in Uruguay!
This unique gourd is made from a squash from southern Brazil. It is hollowed out and then dried to acquire the resistant properties of wood.
The imperial gourds are models of great finesse of execution. Covered with worked leather and circled with Alpaca, the engravings are shaped by hand. Thus each pattern is different.
The gourd is sold without its Alpaca bombilla, also handcrafted!
With a height of 13 cm and a diameter of 10 cm , your imperial gourd will have a capacity between 180ml and 250ml and can accommodate up to 30g of yerba mate. As our gourd is completely handmade, the capacity and size may vary slightly.
Our Imperiale gourds are not cured.

Imperiale Mate Gourd - Chiseled Alpaca
AN EXCEPTIONAL NATURAL GOURD
THE SQUASH, THE ORIGIN OF THE GOURD
Our mate gourds are made from the sturdiest squashes, grown in southern Brazil.
These squashes are recognized as the best for gourd making thanks to their shape and thickness.
After harvest, the squash is emptied then dried for several months, to acquire the resilient properties of wood.
AT THE HEART OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
This is when our artisan, Cristian, begins his meticulous work.
By hand, he dresses the squash in leather and shapes feet to protect and stabilize it. He then crafts a made-to-measure band and chisels it by hand, before fitting it to the top of the mate gourd.
That's why our gourds are unique. Total production time, from the growth of the squash to leaving Cristian's workshop, is between 12 and 18 months.
Alongside your artisan gourd, treat yourself to our range of organic mate, carefully selected for its unmatched flavor.
Why mate?
Mate is a traditional South American drink made from the leaves of the yerba mate tree. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and has stimulating properties similar to coffee and tea. It can help improve focus, energy and digestion.
How to prepare and drink mate?
Mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd and drunk through a bombilla, a filtered metal straw. Fill the gourd about 2/3 full with yerba mate, add hot water (not boiling, around 70-80°C) and sip through the bombilla.
When to drink mate?
Mate can be enjoyed at any time of day, depending on individual preferences and needs. As it contains caffeine, it is often enjoyed in the morning or early afternoon for a boost of energy and focus.
What does mate taste like?
We carefully select our yerba mates for their exceptional flavors: smooth and complex, very close to the taste of a green tea.
