This mate bombilla is made of alpaca and shaped by hand. It stands out for its chiseled bronze plate, applied to the stem, and its bronze ring.

The bronze plate
The plate measures 8 cm. It is hand-chiseled with a motif of flowers and leaves, then applied to the alpaca stem, where it is fixed. On either side, the stem is decorated with hand-struck stippling. A polished bronze ring marks the junction between the stem and the spout. The spout is made of alpaca, curved, polished, with no sharp edges.

The filter
The spoon-type alpaca filter handles all cuts of mate, from large leaves to fine cuts. For very fine yerbas, chimarrão or Uruguayan cut, we recommend the Bomba bombilla instead.

Use and care
Alpaca conducts very little heat: the spout stays lukewarm, even with water at 80 °C. Rinse the bombilla with hot water after each mate; once a month, clean it with baking soda and a silver stone (care guide). The bronze develops a patina over time; the silver stone restores its shine. Cared for in this way, it is guaranteed for life. It matches our gourds with alpaca and bronze rims.

OPTIMAL FILTERING

Filtering your mate is essential to avoid the unpleasant experience of drinking the leaves.

Fortunately, all our bombillas have been designed and made to ensure perfect filtration for every mate cut!

Another plus: unlike steel, Alpaca conducts very little heat - perfect for not burning yourself while drinking your mate!

Questions?

Everything about your Criolla Mate Bombilla - Alpaca and Bronze

Does this bombilla suit every cut of mate?
Yes. All our bombillas have the same filtering power, designed to hold back large leaves as well as finer cuts: you can change yerba without changing bombilla. For very fine yerbas, chimarrão or Uruguayan cut, we recommend the Bomba bombilla, which filters more finely. See our guide which bombilla to choose.
Is the bronze plate engraved or applied?
Both. It is an 8 cm bronze plate, hand-chiseled with a motif of flowers and leaves, then applied and fixed onto the alpaca stem by the silversmith. It is one with the bombilla and does not move in use or when cleaning.
Does the bronze oxidise?
The bronze develops a light patina over time, which is part of its character. A pass with the silver stone during the monthly clean restores its shine. The alpaca, for its part, does not oxidise.
How do I look after my bombilla?
Rinse it with hot water after each use. Once a month, give it a deep clean with baking soda, then with a silver stone. The step-by-step is in our care guide.
Does the bombilla get too hot on the lips?
No. The spout is made of alpaca, which conducts very little heat: it stays lukewarm, even with water at 80 °C, unlike steel.
Is this bombilla handmade?
Yes. Each piece varies slightly in its finish, chiseling and proportions: every bombilla is unique.
Does this bombilla come with a warranty?
Yes, for life. A rinse after each use and a monthly clean are enough to keep it in perfect condition.
How long is this bombilla?
17.5 cm. This length suits traditional gourds: the filter reaches the bottom of the yerba and the spout comes comfortably to lip height.
What should I do if my bombilla clogs up?
Rinse it with very hot water, filter upwards, to flush the particles out of the perforations. If the flow stays slow, soak it in baking soda. The step-by-step is in our care guide.
