A natural mate gourd is fairly easy to maintain, but if you decide to invest in one of our gourd gourds , it is wise to extend its life expectancy by several decades with a few tips.

First of all, it is necessary to separate the maintenance of a natural artisanal mate gourd from that made of stainless steel or ceramic.

How to maintain a natural gourd?

The first step in maintenance, when you receive your natural mate cup, is cleaning . It should be remembered that a well-cleaned and well-maintained natural gourd has a lifespan of more than 20 years .

After preparing your yerba mate in the gourd, you should not let it sit in your mate gourd for too long .

After each use, remember to:

  • Empty and clean the gourd with hot water (around 80-90°C).
  • Drain it, head upside down, for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Then let it air dry in its normal position.

As it is used, certain sensitive elements must be maintained:

  • The inside of the gourd must be emptied after each use.
  • The strapping must be maintained.
  • The leather needs to be nourished.
  • The bombilla must be well cleaned and maintained.
