MORE THAN A GOURD: A WORK OF ART
UNIQUE GOURDS
Signature Gourds represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship, where every unique piece is created with care and precision. Each gourd is shaped by hand by Cristian, our master artisan and silversmith in Uruguay, whose exceptional know-how is celebrated by his peers. Crafting these gourds is a meticulous process that starts with selecting the sturdiest, best-formed squashes from Brazil.
Drawing on his expertise, Cristian sculpts and chisels each gourd with incomparable care. The band, in a more refined Alpaca alloy (easily mistaken for silver), is worked by hand to guarantee unmatched finesse and durability. Every detail is designed to offer not just a functional gourd, but a unique work of art.
These gourds stand out for their rarity and elegance. Each model is made in limited edition, making every gourd a truly unique piece. The time devoted to their creation, from the growth of the squash to Cristian's final touch, is a pledge of quality and durability, guaranteeing an extraordinary mate experience.
Why mate?
Mate is a traditional South American drink made from the leaves of the yerba mate tree. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, and has stimulating properties similar to coffee and tea. It can help improve focus, energy and digestion.
How to prepare and drink mate?
Mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd and drunk through a bombilla, a filtered metal straw. Fill the gourd about 2/3 full with yerba mate, add hot water (not boiling, around 70-80°C) and sip through the bombilla.
When to drink mate?
Mate can be enjoyed at any time of day, depending on individual preferences and needs. As it contains caffeine, it is often enjoyed in the morning or early afternoon for a boost of energy and focus.
What does mate taste like?
We carefully select our yerba mates for their exceptional flavors: smooth and complex, very close to the taste of a green tea.
